A Bio Update From Bonnie:  updated 11-17

Hi everyone, I'm Bonnie.   I landed at AADR after a small rescue in TN took me in.   They said they wanted me to go to a rescue that knew my breed.   I'm not sure I know what that means, but I'm very happy to be where I am.

My foster mom is always telling me what a beautiful little dapple girl I am but I am a little shy and I take a little time to warm up to folks, especially men.   But I'm doing better with that!   I love my foster mom and dad and like nothing better than taking a nap in one of their laps or beside them on the sofa.   I don't really like being in the crate.   I want to be with my people or with my furry foster brother & sister!

I'm working on my leash walking skills and love playing with my stuffed toys.   My foster mom took me to the doctor where they have all these different furry creatures.   She said they were called cats.   Well, whatever they were, I didn't seem to mind being around them.

Some of my favorite things…well, being outside while catching a few rays comes to mind.   Being a southern belle, I enjoy warm weather.   I also like to ride in the car.   With a little more experience and training, I could become your copilot for all kinds of road trip adventures.   That would be awesome.   Because, remember, what I love most is just being with you.

The folks at AADR took me to the vet and made sure I had all my shots and stuff.   They had to remove several of my teeth but that sure doesn’t stop me from eating!   I enjoy small kibble but chewing the big stuff is kinda difficult for me.

Foster mom keeps telling me about a “happily ever after.”   She said I would one day go to a home where I would stay and be loved forever and ever.   So, I'm looking for that place right now.   Could my happily ever after be with you?

If you have questions or want more info just contact mom at rebekahp@earthlink.net.  She will be happy to tell you what a great little girl I am.  I’ll be waiting!

From Bonnie’s foster mom:   Bonnie is a beautiful and special girl who needs and deserves that special family.

Early in Bonnie’s life she did not receive the love and socialization she needed.   She is just now learning about love and what it means to be a member of the family.   Because of Bonnie’s rough start, she will need patience from whomever adopts her.

Our wish for Bonnie is a home with another dachshund (probably a male doxie would be best) with whom she is comfortable and can help teach her the ropes.

If you adopt Bonnie and give her time, patience, and love, she’ll reward you with years of love and loyalty!   Here are some things that will be considered in approving a family to adopt Bonnie:

-         A fenced yard.     Bonnie is making progress with her leash training but is not there yet.   She will need continued help.   Because she does not really walk well (yet) on a leash, a fenced yard is a must.

-         Bonnie needs a home with a person(s) that is home most of the time.   Her potty training is still a work in progress.   We believe she has a bit of separation anxiety, she tends to pee when left alone even when she has just gone outside and done her business.     Bonnie needs a regular potty schedule.   She will use a puppy pad and a doggie door if one is available.   It something she can learn, but it is going to take more time and patience.

-         A doggie buddy.   Having a doggie buddy would probably be very helpful in overcoming whatever fears she has and helping her learn the skills she needs.   In her foster home, Bonnie has enjoyed all sizes of pups.

-         Older kids only.   She is timid.   Chasing, reaching, and grabbing would terrify her.

-         No crates.   Because of her previous bad experience with being confined to a crate, Bonnie gets upset when crated.    A gated area or exercise pen would be best for Bonnie.

Bonnie is a great little girl and a love bug.   She LOVES her people and her greatest joy is being near them.   If you have the time, patience and love to give this little one, she is waiting to be your best friend forever.

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
