UPDATED BIO:
Lily Blue has now been with me for three weeks and is doing better with her fear of the unknown. She was a breeder dog and had not been socialized; therefore she is afraid of everything. She is learning that I and my husband mean her no harm. She is more comfortable with me, but still uncertain about my husband since she was a woman's breeder dog. She will need time and patience so if you have that and can take her out or have people coming in to help socialize her, that would be best for Lily Blue. She's beautiful and in time she'll be the pet she was meant to be, but she's not there yet. No accidents in the house, she sleeps all night in the big bed and let's me lift her off in the morning. She gets very excited about feeding time and will follow you everywhere. A home with a retired or semi-retired couple would be best.  Consider her only if you have LOVE, TIME and PATIENCE.  She is worth it!

BIO:

Lily Blue came into rescue with another dog from the same breeder from whom we’ve rescued several dogs.   Lily is very skittish and does not like to be picked up, but she’ll climb into your lap and follow you all over the house and yard... she MUST HAVE a fenced yard!

We think, in time, she’ll make a wonderful pet but don’t let her beautiful color blind you to the fact that she is going to need lots of time and patience to be the pet she should be.

It would be best if you had a fenced yard, doggie door and another dog she can learn from.   She is slowly learning to trust me (not her foster dad yet), and it’s just going to take time.  If you don’t have time, love, and patience, this dog is not for you.

She sleeps in the bed all night under the covers, gets along with the other dachshunds in the house, and has adjusted to being a house pet, but she still is not sure about being picked up or getting approached to be picked up.   However, when you are sitting to watch TV or read, she’ll climb in your lap to sleep.

As you can see in two of the pictures, her ear is turned inside out, but it does return to factory setting.  :)   This little girl is beautiful but will be work.  Serious inquiries only.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
