Hi, my name is Max! I was rescued from a local humane society. I have some fearful tendencies that cause me to get upset, but I’m just trying to protect myself because I’m scared. I haven’t had a very stable life up till now so I growl if I feel threatened. My foster mom says that with the right family and maybe a little bit of training, I’ll feel more comfortable and less like I need to protect myself.

I really need a home with just adults or older, respectful children. If you have had other doxies in the past, well that’s a huge plus because I certainly exhibit lots of common doxie personality traits! I do like to cuddle, but I don’t love being picked up all that much. I would love a forever home where my new family is patient with me and respects my space, but also keeps me in line! I respond very well to a strong pack leader—in fact, my foster mom is shocked at how obedient I am! I come when called (most of the time), I sit, I get down when she tells me to, I take treats real gently, and in general, I aim to please! I respond well to firm commands but I get really scared if you yell at me or invade my space when I know you’re upset with me. Did I mention that I’m potty trained? What more could you ask for?!

I’d probably be happier as an only dog, but my foster mom thinks I would do okay with proper introduction/supervision as long as the other dogs in the household aren’t alpha. I don’t usually start things, but I won’t back down if someone else provokes me. I do pretty well with cats though, I just ignore them.

I also love burrowing (I am a doxie after all), and I adore squeaky toys. In fact, I might just squeak them until you make me stop. Then I’ll just roll around on the toy instead, I am a happy little guy and I am content to play all by myself!
