BIO:  Sophie's owner got divorced and started working long hours.  She didn't feel it was fair to Sophie to leave her so much so she turn her over to rescue.  Sophie is very friendly, well socialized, and was well cared for.

She had a dental and lost several teeth, but is fine for eating dry food.

Sophie walks well on a leash but would prefer to have a fenced yard so she can chase the squirrels away that want to invade her space.  She needs to also go to a home with another Dachshund, but cats are a NO-NO for Sophie.  Kids are okay as long as they understand her "space".  She loves to sleep in the big bed with you!

So, if you are looking to add a new family member to your home, please consider Sophie.  You won't find a sweeter little girl than her!

More about Sophie #10 in IL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
