Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well but for now please look for dogs on your coast.
For your convenience we also have PAID TRANSPORT companies that are available for a fee to get "your" new addition to your area on a guaranteed date.
Thank you for your interest in a rescue!

FOSTER HOME  DeeAnn Jones, West Columbia, SC  --- deesdawgs@aol.com

Duke is a beautiful silver dapple dachshund.  He was rescued from a shelter in South Carolina where a puppymill bust was conducted.  Duke’s life was horrible before he was rescued by AADR – he lived in a kennel for 2½ years and was not fed everyday.  He arrived to his foster home scared, very skinny and would not allow anyone to touch him.  He has been with his foster family for about 5 months and has really changed.  He has gained the much needed weight and has really become a loving little boy.  Duke could never live in a kennel again so he would need a home that would allow him to roam free either in the home or in a secured large room.  Duke would have to go to a home with other dogs.  He loves other dogs but especially females – he currently lives in a home with four other girls and loves them very much. He likes male dogs too but takes him a little longer to warm up to them.  Duke loves the doggie door and would love to have a home that had one but could be fine with a home with a large back yard with a fence.   He does go camping and enjoys watching the people and never goes after them unless they walk into his territory. He is great on a leash and loves to walk.  Duke is always on the go and loves to be in the yard running and digging.  I would not recommend Duke to go to a home with any children under 13 years of age.  Duke will need a very patient home that can take the time to continue to work on him being timid around people.

Due to the fact that Duke is still scared of strangers – he is NOT eligible to be transported by AADR’s volunteer transport.  If you decide to adopt Duke, please work with his foster home to arrange pickup

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.
