Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well but for now please look for dogs on your coast.
For your convenience we also have PAID TRANSPORT companies that are available for a fee to get "your" new addition to your area on a guaranteed date.
Thank you for your interest in a rescue!

Itty, bitty, teeny, tiny, at only a little more than 9 pounds Hansei is one of the smallest of miniatures. So cute you could just scoop him up and carry him around all day on one arm.

There’s just one problem. Hansei is a breeder dog who is not used to being handled. He seems to have been kept together with other dogs, but not given much interaction with people at all. He is wonderful with other dogs, and loves being in their midst. But Hansei is afraid of people. He ran from me when he first came here and it took about 2 weeks of patience and work to build a relationship with him.

I see a lot of improvement in his time here. In the past few days, I’ve realized he’s following me around in the house as I do things. He will come to me and let me pet him while I’m sitting on the couch. He’s even began to stand on my lap and nuzzle my face with his little nose, and occasionally give me kisses.  Then he’ll let me hold him and cuddle him for a short time, but that’s his limit! Short and Sweet!

He’s very smart and learned the daily routine in no time by following what the other dogs did.  He knows how to use a doggie door, and can shoot through it like a bullet!  I’m very impressed with how well he has done using the potty outdoors, or a puppy pad on the floor.

Hansei only has a couple of teeth, but that doesn’t slow him down at all.  He Loves His Dinner!!! It’s usually gone in seconds. I simply moisten his dry dog food and let it set for a while, so there’s no difficulty with his food. Soft treats are easy to find in the stores, so when the other dogs have a biscuit, I can give him something as well.

Hansei has joined us on the big bed now. He knows I have to lift him up, so he hurries by me, all around me, over and over, just too afraid to stop. I realized he’s wanting me to help him out, so I kneel on the floor and wait until the perfect time to grab him and  place him on the bed. He only seems frightened for a second, then thrilled to be on the bed with the other dogs. Now he even will cuddle and give me kisses good night! Such a sweetie!

One of the next things Hansei needs to learn is about being on a leash. I’ve put one on him several times and he goes wild!!  I’ve decided this could wait until he was more comfortable and trusting of me.

Each day I see more of the precious little boy he is, as he grows and gains in security and confidence. He is truly adorable! I think he is going to be a wonderful addition to a special family that will understand his needs.
