Hope was an owner turn in because the youngest child and she didn’t get along so for that reason we are saying no kids under 12. She’s fine with older kids. Hope definitely attaches herself to one person and follows that person all over the yard or home. When she first came into rescue she had separation anxiety but she has gotten a lot better being here because we don’t make a big deal of us coming and going and she is allow the run of the house.

Hope is completely housebroken and only had one or two accidents when she first came but that was our fault, not hers. She will go to the door when she needs to go out and will run out ahead of you when you go outside so you’d have to watch her that she didn’t bolt out the door. Our yards are both fenced so we don’t have to worry about that but if you don’t have a fence or either your front or back are not fenced she’d be out in a flash. With that being said she also wouldn’t want to be far from her person. She really hasn’t shown any interest in playing with the other dogs, she tolerates them but we think she’d be just fine as an only dog too. With Hope the best thing you can do for her and give her plenty of exercise and wear her out and she’ll be a happy girl. We have started a bad habit of letting her sleep with us but she’s quiet all night and goes out first thing to potty and will hold it all night.

We’d like to see someone adopt her that can continue to work with her on her separation anxiety, walk her or play with her either in your fenced in yard or the park in your area. If you meet these qualifications than please fill out an application to adopt, and make this her last home. Any question just e mail the foster mom.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
