BIO:  Abs is an owner-surrender. She was very scared at first but is beginning to settle in and make herself at home. She still runs when I try to pick her up but will run to the couch and jump up and wait for me there, tail a wagging.  It’s like she wants me to pick her up but she’s afraid for me to do it from the ground. She does fine with her foster brother and sister and is slowly but surely starting to play with them. She’s house broken when kept on a schedule, but still has accidents occasionally.  For some reason, she will not go down more than one step so she has to be carried out. For this reason, I recommend a home with no more than one step (unless you’re ok carrying her out every time). I do think with time, patience and training she would get over her fear of stairs.  She sleeps in a crate at night and is just the sweetest thing. She gives teeny kisses and she’ll just melt your heart when she lays her little head on your chest and looks up at you with those sweet brown eyes.  She’s a sucker for a belly rub too!  Won’t you consider giving this baby girl her furever home?

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Abs....NY

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
