Surrendering Your Dachshund to AADR
First, we have to say we hope you don't want to surrender your dachshund!
If there is a reason you feel you must, we'd like to try to help you work things out.
Is it a behavior problem?
Housetraining issues?
New baby on the way and you don't know how to introduce your dog to the new addition?
Moving to new home and don't think you can take your doxie along with you?
Poor health - you or the dog?
Email us and let us try to help. We have a trainer on call and some members who are very experienced in dachshund health problems (although not veterinarians).
If after all of this, you still feel you must surrender your dachshund, please contact us. Please don't drop him/her in the outside drop box at the shelter!
Unfortunately, we don't have funds to do everything we would like to do. We have a much better chance of helping you if you can help us. If you can take your dachshund to the vet and get everything up to date - immunizations, heartworm test, fecal exam, that will make the surrender process go much faster, because if we don't have the funds to take your dog there could be a delay. PLEASE don't tell us you have not had your pet spayed/neutered. Have your pet on heartworm preventative and flea/tick protection.
Foster homes are limited. If you can keep your pet at your home while we are looking for a forever home, we may be better able to help you. We'll need pictures and vet records but this can work for you and for us and most importantly, for your dog.
