Happy Tales
Every one of these dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Franklin...NC

From the moment Frankie entered the house, it was home. He has been super fantastic. I love his confidence and happy-go-lucky style. In my opinion, given his history, he treats each day as a new puppy adventure. When he hears Pepper, a neighbor's Jack Russell, barking, his tail becomes a fully engaged helicopter and off he skips to the back fence area where Pepper is often located. I attached a photo so you can see how happy and alert he is. The black fuzzy in the photo is my Niko, bergamasco, rare breed, Italian Sheepherding dog. Niko is 80 pounds to Franklin's 9. Size does not matter to either one of them. - having fun with me is what counts. Frankie's leg muscles have developed very well. He walks for 45 minutes daily with Niko, Wee Willie Winkle (miniature poodle mix) and myself. He keeps up perfectly and is smiling the entire way. It would be unthinkable to him to not go. He is getting lots of exercise here and sleeps through the night without incident. The first night, I put him in his crate. Oh stars in the heavens, the vocalization of protest was enormous. Then Niko and Willie joined the chorus. Needless to say after 10 minutes, I installed Frankie in bed with Willie and myself. We all got a good night's sleep. The next day, I packed the crate into the garage. Frankie is well behaved. I have complete confidence when I go out for errands or my every other weekend part time job at my vet's that all is well. He never disappoints. Thank you so much for rescuing this little fellow. He is a joy to me and my pack. > Maureen

Flicker..PA

Flicker's Former foster parents forwarded us this email about her (now known as Lacey)" Lacey is doing great. She is such a spitfire and a big boldy that we love to pieces. The picture is of her from back in February when she was spayed (notice her booboo paw where she had her intravenous. She loves playing with my parents’ dog (Lucky) who is about 6 months older than her. She gets ssssooooo excited when either I or my husband comes home from work and usually squizzles on the floor. She is in her chewing stage (for which we try to keep rawhide bones around for) and has chewed on wooden things in the house, sticks in the yard, etc. We scold her when she gets bold like that but it’s pretty difficult to stay mad at her when she jumps on your lap and starts kissing your face to say she’s sorry. She is definitely the highlight of a day when work has been a bad day. She enjoys tormenting her kitty brother (who is 10 yrs old and just likes to lounge around). In fact, she has pretty much ripped to shreds all his kitty toys. I call it payback for when the kitty tormented our beagle before she passed away. But for the most part, they get along good too. We hope her birth brother’s parents are as happy with him as we are with her (she sends a “Woof, woof” his way). Thanks again for being great foster parents, Faith & Scot H.

FRAZIER...MA
FRAZIER...MA

From Frazier's forever Mom!! == "An update on our sweetheart is long overdue. He is so wonderful well behaved and now, that we have become familiar with all the things he is sensitive to, he is healthy, feeling well, playful and covered with a thick and long coat - even on his once bear belly. My husband refers to him as his "Bearcub". No hair grew back over his large scar on his right hip, but he does not have to enter a beauty contest. He is beautiful!!!! He sleeps with us and loves to go under the cover. What a snuggler. He also has his and our routine. We had to get up extremely early yesterday (4am) and he did not like that. Jumped out of bed and started barking at us!! He is so funny. From day one he would occasionally let out a short screach when we picked him up and we contributed it to his pelvic injury. It turns out he actually had a bit of early arthritis (due to the many steroid shots in his previous live). Glucosamine did the trick, no more screaches, running around, going for long walks, greeting everyone on the road with and without dogs and loves to eat!!!! His treats are grapefruit or any other citrus and fruit except grapes, loves vegetables and despite our carful rationing of his food, he maintains a little chubby circumference. When he had a nasty reaction to a toy Fessant which he loved (made in China) we finally stuffed a woolen sock with cotton. He is just as happy with it, chases it and kicks it around and no more vomiting or diarrhea. He had similar reactions to the chewing leathers and treats. We found some plain, undied leathers made in the US at Targets and he is doing well with them. He also gets diarrhea from Turkey and Chicken. One of the Heartworm Meds gave him a nasty cough. He is tolerating Interceptor. However that is no longer available. Don't know what the Vet will try. I trust our new Vet so I feel confident. He did vaccinate him against Lime disease. We have a lot of Ticks in our area. I always look at your available dog list and would love to take another one, but my husband won't let me. My heart always bleeds when I read the stories. Thanks for all the love and dedication you all show to these little "Dackel" I have some pictures from Easter on the camera, but I have to wait for my son to put them on to the computer. I'll send them . I hope you have been spared by these terrible storms." ~ Brigitte

Flash...NH

From Flash's Forever Home: "OMG we love him to pieces! My other dachshund loves him too. He is just a love and so sweet and gentle. My vet says if I didn't tell him he had dachshund in him he wouldn't even suspect it! My brother wants to steal him too! Attached are a couple of pics of him and Heidi, my first rescue pup. She is a year and a half. She was my baby till Flash came along, now he is HER baby! She loves him, and they are inseparable. The last pic is hard to see, both pups are velcroed to me on the couch. best of all, they are both Mama"s babies, but he tend so be equally a Daddy's boy! Whenever I sit, they have to be attached to me. If not sitting, they are attached to each other. If Hubby is sitting he is in his lap! They run and chase each other in the yard, and play till they drop. We are so glad we have them both - and to think we said "no more dogs" when our last baby died a few years ago, and now we have 2! Thanks for checking in with me. I guess the fact that he thinks he owns us now means he is adjusting well! I hope all adoptions go this well! Thanks for my pup! Hope you have a great day also." Pam
