BIO:

Doc is one of those dogs that has maintained a sweet personality throughout a lot of hardship.  Doc was surrendered to a shelter and tested heart worm positive.  He’s through all of that now, but in addition to that condition he must have had a hard hand as a young pup because he has some submissive pee issues that he is working to overcome.  Much of the time his pee issues are from pure excitement.  We don’t think that he was given very much attention at his previous house and when you give him attention, he can get really excited.  Despite all of these obstacles, he is a curious, lively lad who has made friends with all of the other dogs in his foster household.  He is a bit reserved at first, but when he gets used to his surroundings he loves to play, investigate, and be everything that we love about Dachshunds!!  He LOVES to curl up in your lap and take nice long naps.

Doc has not been around children, so we don’t know how he is with little ones but, given his pee issues, he might do best in a house with no kids.  He has gotten along with all dogs but cats are a question mark.  He is a little on the thin side but his appetite is great and he should be at his ideal weight of around 15 pounds very soon.    

Doc is a great little guy.  He needs an understanding home with veteran Dachshund owners who can nurture him and get him the rest of the way to becoming a well-adjusted dog.  If you are that person, you will be rewarded with a loving, wonderful Doxie!  Please give Doc a chance!!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
