BIO: Jacob was turned over to us by his owners when they could not keep him.  They had gotten him from their child’s college roommate when she was unable to keep him also.  However, after taking little Jacob, they found he was heartworm positive.  They were not able to provide treatment so they decided they should find a rescue for him so he could get the care he needed.

Jacob has mild separation anxiety.  When you leave him, he’ll bark and carry-on for about 5 minutes.  For that reason, no apartments for him.  And, he must go to a home with a fenced yard.

Jacob is a low-key dog and loves to be with his people!  If you sit, he’s in your lap.  He would make a great dog for an older, quiet couple or a single person.  He just needs continual work with his separation anxiety and the rescue will help you with that.  Jacob is housebroken and will either use the doggie door or go out when you take him.  He will sound the alarm when someone comes to the door, but is not an excessive barker.

Because Jacob is going through heartworm treatment, he won’t be available for adoption until the 1st of April.  We help with getting any dog from point A to B, so don’t let distance stand in your way of adopting this sweet boy.  Apply now and when he’s ready to come to you, you’ll be ready too.

If you have any questions and are interested in Jacob, please contact Jacob’s foster mom and good luck... this little cutie is going to be popular!

More about Jacob.....MD

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
