BIO:

Nellie came from a shelter in KY.  She was given up by her owners when they no longer wanted her.

Nellie can be skittish so she would need time to warm up to someone before they just walked on up to her and stuck their hand in her face or tried to pick her up.  If you allow her time to warm up to you, she’s fine.  This is the case with many dachshunds.  Nellie loves to play with other dachshunds and we want her to have a fenced in yard and another younger dog to play with.  If you have that and the time to socialize her more, Nellie just may be the little girl for you! Someone that would be home to help her with her housebreaking skills would also help.  She’s a great dog and we just want to give her a second chance at a better home.  The food they were feeding her was not the best and her coat reflects that, but we are feeding her a high quality grain free food and we think her coat will greatly improve.

If you have any questions about Nellie or live close enough to visit, please fill out an online adoption application today.

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
