BIO

Hi there!  My name is Tyrone, but my foster mom calls me Ty.  Sometimes she even calls me “Tank” since I’m so solidly built and low down to the ground!  I came from a puppymill in MO where I lived in a wire cage for years.  To survive I’d shrink low so my weight would be more evenly distributed on the wires, but even that didn’t stop my paws from becoming splayed.   I’m not a barker, partly because the “evil people” tried to debark me.  They also fed me poor quality food so I had almost all my teeth pulled once AADR took me to their vet.  The good news is you won’t have to worry about doing expensive dentals in the future.  I only have two lower canines left, but that doesn’t stop me from eating … just add a little warm water to my kibble and I’m a happy camper.

Speaking of camping, I REALLY like being in “protected” places such as my kennel, a corner of the room or yard, under the bed.  I haven’t forgotten about those “evil people” so I am slow to trust new people and new situations.  Please understand that EVERYTHING is new to me, especially everyday sounds like the garbage disposal, the garage door opener, the ice maker, well just about any sound is new to me.  I LOVE to be outside in a fenced in yard!!!  It’s so wonderful compared to my old life.  OH, did I mention the BIG bed?  Sleeping with foster mom and four other dogs is HEAVEN!

I get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, but could be VERY happy being an only dog getting all the good attention I deserve!  It will take me a while to get to know you, but please give me a chance ‘cause I will make you VERY happy.  Don’t you want to show me more of this great new world?  Please be my teacher.  I want to experience so much more.  I really want a family of my own to spoil me and make up for years of isolation.  A fenced yard would be the icing on the cake!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
