BIO:

Poss is a friendly boy who was taken in by neighbors when his owner died.  After their own dog died, Poss became lonesome and they did not have enough time to devote to him.  Fortunately they contacted AADR to find him a new home.
Poss is an unusual blue and tan color.  His coat is a bit thin on his head and back, but that is common in blue dachshunds.  When Poss had his teeth cleaned he lost a bunch, but he still has his canines and has no trouble eating dry dog food.  The vet found that Poss has a heart murmur. He will need a checkup at least once a year to monitor it.  At present he shows no symptoms and does not require any medication, but he may in the future.

Poss loves to go for short walks around the neighborhood and enjoys lounging in the sun on the enclosed porch.  He gets along well with other dogs and would do best in a home with dog buddies to play with.  He will chase cats, so should probably not live with one.  There was a dog savvy young child in Poss's previous home and they got along well together.

Poss is doing very well with his housetraining.  You need to make sure he takes care of business while he is outside to minimize accidents inside.  He would do great with a dog door and fenced yard.  Poss enjoys sitting on the couch to watch tv, but is just as happy doing his own thing.  At night he sleeps quietly in his crate and is ready for a trip outside and breakfast in the morning.  I'm sure he would be very happy to sleep with his people too.  Poss is a quiet and easy going dog.

If you are looking for a sweet boy to add to your posse, the possibilities are endless with Poss!

More about Poss.....TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
