BIO UPDATE (10/4/2025): Ollie is a an extremely sweet, friendly boy. Sometimes it may take him a little bit to warm up but does well with strangers (adults) coming into the house. He especially loves being with his person and will follow you EVERYWHERE. He LOVES to sleep with you on the couch. Well, we may as well face the fact that Ollie loves to sleep in general and can be a bit grumpy if you try to end his nap too soon.
Ollie is good with other dogs, no aggression at all, but does prefer his hoomans. He would be good as an only dog or do great in a one dog or multi dog family. However, he can get defensive if multiple dogs invade his personal space by getting in his face.
Ollie sleeps in a crate, he will whine and cry for a few minutes but will settle down and sleep all night. He likes to burrow under a blanket in his crate and sometimes get stuck under there and will need helping finding his way out. HAHA. He can be a bit dramatic in that when he knows you have just come home and have not let him out of his crate immediately; he will whine and bark in protest to his “false imprisonment.”
Ollie does need to lose a few pounds but is eating his new diet food very well. He eats separate from other dogs. He is a pretty fierce beggar for “people food.” He jumps up and down right beside you while you are eating. He is now learning this is not going to get him anywhere.
Ollie loves to lay in the sun inside or outside. We are working on walking with a leash and potty training. For the most part, he does potty outside.
BIO: Ollie was an owner surrender in Middle TN when his owners went into a nursing home. Ollie was confused at first coming into rescue but has now adjusted to being with us. He is a little picky with the Metabolic that we have him on because we are sure he got a lot of people food. It is important that he be kept on the SD Metabolic for him to lose the weight that he needs to lose for his health.
Ollie is a little leery of meeting new people but warms quickly. We feel he would be better suited to a quieter home rather than a busy home with visitors running in and out. We think it is important that the new family be willing to take him to dog parks, pet stores, and car rides to help him with socialization and him getting used to going to new places. All in all, Ollie is a wonderful pup and deserves a family that will be his last home, how about you?
Our must haves for Ollie are:
- A fenced in yard
- Someone that is home a lot or works from home and if not another dog to keep him company if you must be out of the home
- No apartments, high rises or condos because as with dachshund they do like to bark at strange noises
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
