BIO UPDATE 1-17:  Needs a fenced in yard.

Hi everybody!  I thought that since now I am settled in my Foster Home I would give you an update and let you know everything is A-OK!  It is so fun learning to be a pet and getting to play fetch and de-stuff toys and run around the fenced yard as a free dog!  Foster Mommy says I am doing really well with going potty outside.  She takes me outside on a schedule to do my business even though we have a doggy door which I use to go outside whenever I want!  I have gotten use to going in my crate too.  I don’t mind so much as long as I have my Kong to keep me busy.  We went on a “bye-bye” just a few days ago and I got to sit in a seat!  I was tethered to this seatbelt thing, and I wasn’t so sure about it at first, but then I figured out I can just lay comfortably on my blanket on the seat just like a big boy!  I sleep in a crate at my Foster Home, but my wish is to be able to snuggle in the big bed at my furever home.  I think I would also love to have another dog and maybe even a human brother and/or sister to play with.

Sometimes we have company to our house and strangers make me nervous.  Sure, I warm up after a while, but I stick close to my Foster Mommy to be sure I’m safe.  I have really enjoyed all the changes in my life and I cannot wait to find my furever home!

If you have the love and patience a boy like me needs, and you just cannot resist my very cute face, please apply!  I just know the right family is out there waiting to find me!

BIO: Needs a fenced in yard!

Duke came to AADR with Parvo along with 2 other dogs, one of which also had puppies.  Sadly, all the puppies and one adult dog did not make it.  On the bright side, Duke came out of it a happy, healthy little man who is ready to begin his life as a pet!  He is young, playful and full of energy.  Did you notice how handsome he is?

Duke gets along well with other dogs but tends to get jealous if someone else is getting attention.  He is not mean about it; he just butts in and tries to hog it all up for himself.  Who could blame him after all he has been through?  Duke would do best in a home with another well-adjusted (probably female) dog who could help teach him how to be a pet.  Before he came to AADR, he lived in a not-so-great breeder situation so he is learning what the life of a dog should really be.

Duke loves to sit on your lap every chance he gets!  He will follow you wherever you go around the house, and if he could have everything his way, I know he would love to sleep in the big bed at night.  Duke does not like his crate much at all and would love a home where he could spend as little time as possible in one.  When he goes outside, he loves to run through the fenced yard and enjoy his freedom!

This boy has been through a lot to get to where he is now, and his future is brighter than ever!  If Duke sounds like a good fit with your pack, please go to Allamericandachshundrescue.org and fill out an application, and feel free to contact his Foster Mom at Decollinss@aol.com.

More about Duke #8......TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
