BIO:

Hello, I’m Slinky!  I was picked up as a stray by a local shelter and luckily for me, AADR rescued me from there.

I’m one happy go lucky little boy!  I love to be loved and I will even talk to you when I want something.  I get along great with other dogs (male or female) and would love a brother or sister that I can run and play with all day.  I’m still very young and full of energy so a fenced-in yard is a must so that we can spend lots of time outside playing together.  I love to play fetch and get super excited when you throw a stuffed toy for me.

I’m pretty much the strong, silent type, not much of a barker at all.  The only times I really bark is when I get so excited when you arrive home and when I am put in my crate.  Who can blame me, all I want is to be with you!  When I bark after getting in my crate I settle down quickly after a few minutes.  I’ve been doing great sleeping in my own doggie bed at my foster home at night but being allowed to sleep in the big bed would be awesome.

My foster mom is working with me on what she calls "basic commands", you know; sit, stay, etc.  She thinks she is training me but actually, I'm training her to give me treats!  She is so smart and a quick learner.

If you are looking for a spunky boy to add to your family, I’m your man!

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
