BIO: Murphy came from NC where his owner had to surrender him, along with several of her other dachshunds, due to health issues.  Murphy is very shy and timid and will take a while to warm up to his new surroundings.  But if you have the patience and the time, he’s got the love.  After being with us for a week, he’s doing well and wagging his tail at us.  We also discovered that he has a voice when he wants to be with us.  He’ll bark to let us know to pay attention to him.  Murphy’s a great boy!

Murphy does need to gain some weight.  We are not sure why he was about 2 pounds underweight, but good food and a loving home will take care of that.

We think since Murphy has been with other dogs that he needs to be with at least one other dog and have a fenced-in yard.  He needs someone that will work with him so he can gain confidence. Murphy is a beautiful dog!  His coat was neglected but we how have him on good food and have trimmed his nails and he’s on his way to being beautiful again.

Please give this boy a chance to win your heart over, he’s a precious soul and gentle soul. His eyes show you just how gentle he is!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
