BIO Update 9/15/17:

Are you looking for a Handsome and Very Sweet little man to add to your pack?  Brandon is over all a low key but happy little fellow who is beautiful both inside and out.  He loves spending time outside on nicer days with his Foster Fur Family and equally enjoys lounging quietly next to his human.  He sleeps quietly in his doggy bed at night but I am sure he would love to be someone’s bed partner!  Like any dachshund, Brandon enjoys meal times and treats, even if it means it is time to go in his crate for a while when we are away.

This little guy seems to have had a rough start in life and is looking for someone with patience and understanding and someone who will love him unconditionally for the rest of his life.  If Brandon sounds like a good fit for your home, please fill out an application at  http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/

BIO:  Brandon was allegedly found as a stray.  The people that found him could not keep him so they turned him into a small shelter in rural NC.  The shelter reached out to us when they found out Brandon was heartworm positive.  If a rescue cannot be found to take heartworm positive pups, shelters often euthanize them without putting them up for adoption.  But lucky pup Brandon…he is here with us!

Brandon is a shy boy when you first meet him and it takes him a while to learn to trust you.  For that reason, we feel he was mistreated by someone/person(s).  He’s really a sweet boy and you can see he wants to trust, but he’s just not sure.  Brandon was here about 2 weeks before he felt comfortable enough that he wanted in your lap.

Brandon is afraid of thunder.  During a thunderstorm, he will be in your lap and as close to you as he can get.  A Thunder Shirt (or similar garment) may help him with his fear/anxiety.  This behavior indicates that during storms he was either left outside or was housed in a metal building where thunder just echoes.

We do want this little guy to have a fenced-in yard and a social dog to learn from.  He gets along well with male and female dogs, he is not an alpha dog.  But he would do well as an only dog too.

We think a quiet home with maybe one other low key dog or no other dog, fenced-in yard and someone home a lot would be a very good fit for Brandon.  Because he was high heartworm positive, he does have some heart issues that can be explained if you are interested enough and want to adopt him.

If you are interested in owning a wire and have the time, patience, and love to give, this boy would be your loyal companion for life.  Please think about it!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Timid

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
