Toby came from Birmingham, Alabama where he spent his first year and a half of life outside with only his girlfriend Daisy by his side. His owner was going to take them to the pound, but lucky for Toby and Daisy, they ended up at AADR. Toby is now being fostered in Phoenix, Arizona where he is doing wonderfully as an indoor dog. He is working on his bathroom manners but is doing great using the doggie door. He is a cuddler and loves to be loved. He gets along well with kids and smaller dogs; however he is scared of larger dogs. Not sure how he would be around cats but given his sweet nature, he would most likely warm up to one after a proper introduction. Toby is a smart, handsome boy who with just a little more training will make someone a very happy dog owner. Thanks for your interest in Toby!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
