BIO: Auggie is a sweet and funny little boy! He loves playing with squeak toys and running with them around the house. He is always looking for his next adventure. He gets along well with other dogs. He travels great in the car. We have been taking him everywhere with us. He also LOVES to be held! He is VERY friendly with everyone he meets. He rarely stops wagging his tail.
When at home, he will follow you everywhere you go. We've nicknamed him the "Black Shadow". As soon as you sit down, he will stand up with his front legs on your knee and beg to be picked up. He will curl up in your lap and sleep as long as you will let him. He has done well with housebreaking. We have him on a tight schedule. Auggie has requested that he sleep in the big bed in his new home. He does not like being crated. We are not sure if a crate was used for punishment or if he was neglected . . . but being in a crate stresses him out. He is not much of a barker, unless he is crated. His new home should be a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time. Besides, once you meet him . . . you will never let him leave your side! Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
