BIO:

Ozzy was found as a stray in Tennessee.  He is a handsome and good natured little dog, so I can't imagine why nobody came to claim him!  He has a light red coat with a white chest and just a touch of gray on his muzzle.  His tail is always wagging and he is eager to please.  Ozzy walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood and meeting new people.  Although he has not been around children in his foster home, he is very friendly and would do fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with him.  He gets along well with other dogs.  He has not been around cats, but can be introduced to some if needed.

Ozzy likes to play with other dogs, but is also happy to snooze in his dog bed or on a lap.  He is housebroken and once he learned the routine, he has had no accidents.  At bedtime, he goes into his crate and sleeps quietly until morning.  He would also be very happy to sleep with his people.  During the day he stays in a dog-friendly part of the house with the other dachshunds in the family.  He barks a little when foster mom gets home, but is otherwise pretty quiet.

If you are looking for a happy little friend for walks and snuggles, Ozzy is your guy!

More about Ozzy #2 in KY

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
