BIO Update (12/23/2017):   IT’S SNOWING IN VERMONT!!!!      Yes, that’s right!   It’s snowing in Vermont and for this little southern boy it is quite exciting.   I’ve never seen anything like it!   I love it but boy, do my toes get frosty.   Check out my video:

A white Christmas ... I love it!

Stay warm.   Love, Tanner.

BIO:   Tanner was found as a stray with a female dachshund and was turned over to AADR to find him a perfect home.   Being a stray on the road has caused him to be VERY skinny, but we are working on putting some meat on his bones.   Running the streets hasn’t influenced how cute, sweet, and loving this little boy is.   He is an attention hound.   If another pet is getting attention then that means he is not getting enough and is quick to push his nose in the middle of what is going on.   He doesn't seem to have any food or toy aggression except if another dog is playing with a toy, he wants to play with it more.  We did have one instance where he got into a spat with another dog but that seems to have been an isolated instance that had many factors involved.  He is an alpha and can be a little bossy if he wants to.

He has been in his foster home for 5 days and has become great friends with his dachshund foster brothers and sister.  We would love to see him go to a home with a fenced in yard so that he can run around, but it is not required.  If there is not a fenced in area for him, he MUST be on a leash hooked to a harness at all times while outside.  He has the capability to slip a collar, no matter how tight it is, so therefore a harness is a MUST.

He loves to run around playing with toys but we recommend not buying toys with stuffing and squeakers in them.  He does love them, and he gives them squeakerectomies within minutes of getting them.  You will have stuffing all over the place like snow!

If you adopt Tanner, you will be so happy with him and he will give you unconditional love!  He gives puppy kisses and snuggles as good, if not better, than any dog you could ever want.  If you have any questions about Tanner, please contact us at the foster’s email address.  We’d love to tell you all about him.  Tanner would love to have a Furever Home for the New Year!

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
