BIO:  Oscar has been in his foster home for two full days and he is such a joy to have here!  Oscar came in to rescue as an owner surrender in Ohio.  He is full of energy and loves to run around and play.  He is very attentive of any little noise and is quick to protect the home with his adorable squeaky bark.  He is house trained to a doggy door, but he did have a few small accidents when he got here.  This was clearly because of his long weekend of traveling and new environment.  It only took him a day to learn the new routine and there haven't been any problems since.

We haven't experienced any food or treat aggression.  There have been isolated spats concerning toys, so we have monitored when and where he can play with the toys and he is always under supervision.  Oscar is great around other small dogs.  We have not exposed him to cats or big dogs.  I feel that he would be fine around dog savvy, respectful children, therefore, the children must be at least 10 years old.  He would be very happy in a home with a fenced yard.  He will be happy with regular leashed walks in the neighborhood, too.

If you adopt Oscar, you will be so happy with him and he will give you unconditional love!  Oscar is excited about getting his new Furever Home.  If you have any questions about Oscar, please contact us at the foster’s email address.  We’d love to tell you all about him!

More about Oscar #20 in NY

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
