BIO UPDATE (5/31/2018):   Just checking in!  Things are still going great in my foster home!  I think my foster mom has really fallen in love with me.  I have heard her saying things like, “Buddy is so loving; he is a real snuggle bug.”  I also overheard her telling someone that I was so very “gentle and kind.”  It makes me so happy!  I love my people!

I have been here a couple of months now.  Some very nice folks have been very interested in me but the home that is just perfect for me has not come along yet, but I know it will.  Could that be you?  I really want a home where I can be a part of the family and if my humans could be home most of the time, that would be fantastic.  We could take walks together!  I would really like that!

Thanks for reading about me!

Love,

Buddy

BIO UPDATE (5/8/2018):  Hello, Buddy here!  Just an update on how I am doing.

I am really coming out of my shell!  When folks visit, I bark a time or two and that’s it.  I’m even getting into this kid thing a bit.  On weekends, some of the grandchildren visit and they are busy, they talk to me and pet me, and that's ok.

I am loving being outside tanning.  My foster mom gardens a lot so I enjoy watching her…should help… but nah, rather watch.

My foster mom takes my nose and says “grrrrr,” now it's time to play!  My tail goes a mile a minute!  I flip over so my belly gets rubbed too.  I love to snuggle on the couch with her!  I still like the blanket on the floor, or I stretch out on the carpet and sometimes on the big bed.

My foster mom tells others I am very sweet.

I am getting very comfortable with the routine, and becoming even more comfortable all the time.

I thought I'd get more comfortable with the cat but no way, don’t like him.

I would like nothing more than to have my own home full of kindness and love!

Love,

Buddy

BIO (4/22/2018):  Hello, my name is Buddy!  I favor the dachshund side although I am mixed.   Not sure with what, but they must be handsome too.  My family in North Carolina was moving and didn't want to take me.  I was very scared and on the aggressive side at the shelter so they didn't want me either.  They contacted AADR and they were happy to take me!  I arrived at my foster home 3 weeks ago and I have really come out of my shell!

I can tell you that I do NOT like cats.  Kids are okay as long as they have been taught how to respect me and my space.  My foster home has 3 dogs of their own.  They call me the fun police, because when the others are playing together, I bark and bark.  The other dogs are okay, we get along, I just don't play with them because I’m pretty comfortable being alone.  I am house trained, but please remember with the transition to a new home, I could have accidents.

I sleep in a crate at night, sometimes during the day I might hang out in there too.  I did sleep with my foster mom 3 nights, and I loved it!  My foster mom keeps a blanket on the floor, I am allowed on the furniture but hang out under the desk on a blanket.

I want to find a forever home where I will be another member of the family and if there is another dog, that they are older because this puppy business is too much for me.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me!  If you’re interested, please submit an application.  You'll find that on the left side of the page on our website.  Should you have more questions, please feel free to contact my foster mom, she loves to talk.

Love,

Buddy

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
