BIO:  Tripp came in with another dog from a hoarding situation in Northern AL and had to be held at the shelter for 6 months before the court finally released him to Animal Control so he could be turned over to rescue. He was not in very good shape when he came to the shelter but they helped to nurse him back to health and rescue took care of the rest. Boy was he happy when he got to us, happy to be free at last! When he first came from the hoarding situation, he had no hair on the back half of his body. They felt it was from fleas but we’ve tested him and he does have low thyroid and is now on medicine. We are not sure if he’ll need to stay on that medicine, so he’ll be retested.

You could not ask for a better boy and he sure doesn’t act his age... he has a spring in his step and a quest for anything! He’d be a great walking partner or if you just want to hang out in your garden, he’ll be happy to watch you work or heck, he might help you pull up weeds. He’s friendly to all dogs but NO cats. He’s housebroken but could have a transitional accident.

He does have a heart pill that he takes twice a day for a heart murmur but has no clinical signs. Please don’t let that stop you from giving this boy a great home for his last days because the first set were not that great. He needs some good loving and he’ll give it back to you as well! If we had to sum him up in one word, it would be “HAPPY”!

More about Tripp in FL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
