BIO (6-25-18):  ***Looking for a FLORIDA adopter for Smokey***

Well, are you looking for an adorable, tiny princess to love?  Here she is!!!  Her name is Smokey, but maybe it should be SWEETNESS!  She will melt your heart the minute you meet her!!!

Smokey is super friendly and her tail is ALWAYS wagging.  She gets along with all five doxies in her foster home ... male and female ... makes no difference.  She has a real easy-going personality that you’ll just fall head over heels for, too.  If she whines or barks, a sharp “NO” will squelch it quickly.

Smokey does have one “bad” habit ... she can jump!  Jumping is NOT good for any doxie.   She should never be allowed to do stairs or jump on and off of furniture, unless you want to risk her needing future back surgery.  Did you know back surgery for a dachshund runs $5000-$8000?  Oh, and be sure to push your chair back under the dining table when you get up, ‘cause she’ll be in your chair in a flash to see what’s on the table!  LOL

Smokey has just unpacked her bags at her foster home in Sarasota after a 15-hour transport to FL.  She is in no rush to make another long trip and we don’t think that will be necessary either.  We know there are lots of wonderful folks in FL who will want to give Smokey a loving forever home!

Smokey came into rescue after her family had a baby and was moving.  Smokey was obviously well cared for in her previous home and AADR will be VERY picky in finding her the perfect match for her next (and LAST) home!  She would love a family with someone home a lot so she can have a lap to sit in while giving dainty kisses to her new mom or dad.  She’d also love to sleep in the BIG bed if you’ll give her the opportunity!  Any children in the home must be respectful of a small dog’s space and at least 12 years old.

After you fill out an app from the left-hand column at www.AllAmericanDachshundRescue.org  you can contact Smokey’s foster mom (Meg) for more info on this cutie!

More about Smokey in FL

Good with Some Dogs (No large dogs), Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Does Good in the Car, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
