BIO: Luna was surrendered because she didn't like the other female dog in the home in IN and did not like the three year old child in her face. With that being said, we think she would do better in a home with no kids or kids over 10 yrs that can respect her space and either a newly retired person (couple) or someone home a lot. She is crate trained and will go in the crate when told and given something to keep her occupied.

Luna is a great dog if you just want a companion to follow you around or watch you while you work. Foster mom puts her toys up when she’s doesn’t want to play but Luna will also play with her toys by herself

Did we tell you she loves toys? She loves to play with them and she loves you to play with them with her. She will keep you busy throwing that toy or ball all day long or when you are tired, she's ready to settle down with you and be your lap dog. Luna truly is the perfect dog! She goes to the door when she needs to go outside, she'd love to sleep in the big bed with you but would sleep on the couch too if you didn't want a bed partner.

Luna needs a fenced yard at least 4 ft high because she does have a high prey drive. She also would be fine with a submissive male but no females. But the new family would be better if the male they have is not a player of toys because Luna will take care of that. She would also be good being an only dog.

What more can you ask for in a "new best friend"?!

She would love to have someone home with her most of the time so she could play when she feels like it or cuddle with on the couch when both of you are ready to settle down. Please keep in mind, NO CHILDREN, so no young couple can apply.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Luna #3 in MD

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
