BIO UPDATE (8/16/2016):  Ozzie is doing very well and is starting to calm down a little.  He is still all puppy, but he is learning to play nicely and will, with time, become a gentleman!  He loves to be with his people and lay in their lap to watch TV.  Just thought folks would like to know how he is improving!

BIO (7/21/2018):  Are you ready to go off the rails of the Crazy Train?  If the answer is yes, then here’s Ozzie!!

Ozzie is a sweetheart of a puppy who can, in all honesty, be a handful.  He LOVES to play!  He loves to play with other dogs, he loves to play with toys (hide the socks!), he just loves to play.  Part of his excitability is that we don’t think he ever really had a chance to become acclimated or socialized as a really young puppy.  We know that in his prior households he was kept in a crate as much as 12 hours a day!  So, there wasn’t much socialization with other dogs, or people for that matter.  His foster dad however, is seeing a change in his temperament and it is all for the good.  He still has his puppy antics and can be pretty annoying to his three foster home sisters, but he is definitely turning a corner on learning how to be around people and other dogs.

He is a barker so we do not think he would be very good in an apartment.  He needs a house with a fenced backyard so that he can run and play and explore.  He loves his toys and will mistake socks and house slippers for toys.  Just be warned.  He has had a few accidents in the house, but his potty training is coming along nicely.  He does like to sleep in the big bed so that he can be near his people.  One thing that his foster dad has noticed is that if you do not go out into the backyard with him, he will sit by the door and whine.  Ozzie likes company!

Bottom line is that he is a sweet, sweet dog!  He loves to be near you and in your lap.  Once he grows out of his puppy stage, we believe that Ozzie will be a FANTASTIC addition to any family.  Could you be that special family that takes in a fast-moving bundle of joy?  If so, Ozzie is your guy!

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Playful

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
