Bucky needs a fenced yard and another young dog to play with!

BIO UPDATE (10/25/2018):   Bucky is now leash trained! He doesn’t quite understand what walks are but he is not aggressive or fearful when he is on one.

Bucky doesn’t like to be crated. If he isn’t sleeping under some blankets on the couch or bed he wants to be cuddling up with you.

Potty training is significantly better. He will go out first thing in the morning and do his business and during the day he is okay. But there are no tells that he needs to go out so it’s just about being patient and consistent.

He eats only dry food now and we give him treats for going to the bathroom outside. He will occasionally play with our one year old Charlie but for the most part, just wants to sleep and cuddle. He doesn’t have tons of energy so a small walk is enough for him.

Bucky is less timid and has much more confidence than when he first arrived. With a little attention, he will give you so much love and affection. You can’t stop his little tail from wagging!

BIO (9/20/2018):  Itty, bitty, brave Bucky…

Bucky must have quite a story to tell. Unfortunately, none of us will ever know what it is.

What we do know is that Bucky was dumped around the Atlanta, Georgia area.  How long was he out there with his brother, Baxter?  We will never know that either.  But now they have a second chance thanks to a wonderful soul that saved them off the street, contacted the rescue, and now they are ready to find their forever homes.  He came into our home weighing a mere 8.5 pounds and with his full ribcage on display.  He was tired, but still very loving.

After a few short days, here is what I can tell you about him.  He ADORES attention. Needs it, wants it, thrives on it!  You cannot give him enough.  He is literally a tiny love bug!  Our one-year old, Charlie, bugs him constantly to play and he is happy to.  At the moment, we are limiting it until he has gained a little weight which won’t take long the way he eats.  He is definitely not a grazer.  His diet at the moment is part dry food and part wet food.  Dry food alone, he doesn’t seem to be too fond of right now.

Bucky isn’t 100% house trained as I write this but has improved significantly in the few days we have been training him.  Like any breed, but especially the cheeky dachshunds, it is all about patience and consistency.

When Bucky first came to us, he was very timid.  He is now more vocal and more comfortable to chill out on his own while you are busy around the house.

I will of course update this bio as I learn more about him, but please feel free to email me with any questions and I will be happy to answer them!

More about Bucky in GA

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Playful, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
