Mae-Belle is 4 years old and is just at the 9 pound mark. From the first time, I picked her up, I fell in love. This tiny girl is one loyal doxie!! She is completely happy in life as long as she is being loved on or if she can follow “her person” around the house. If it was up to her, she would stay in your arms all day long but is also content to go relax on the couch by the window (as long as she knows you are nearby). She belonged to a nice family here in SC who took great care of her and the other 5 dachshunds they owned. According to the owner, a neighbor reported them for having this many dogs and for the barking and animal control was going to confiscate 4 of the 6 dachshunds. She got in touch with AADR and we were able to take them in before they went to the shelter. Mae-belle and her fur-daughter, Andie (who is also available to adopt) are being fostered here and get along great. They love to follow eachother in the backyard and to sleep together. They also do well in a crate together while I’m gone. Although they are not bonded and can be adopted out separately, I would love to keep them together.  They are both sleeping on my lap as I type this! They are very different in personality but really compliment eachother in such a way that it’s a joy to see them interact and to have them both in my home!

If Mae-Belle is adopted out separately, the home must have another mild-mannered dachshund that will keep her company while the family is gone. Since she has grown up with dachshunds, I know she would be very lonely without them. The only exception to this is if she were to go to a home where someone was home during the day. As mentioned before, she is very loyal to her person and would be very happy if she could spend all day long with them! In addition, although she gets along just fine with my other dachshunds, she is scared of my larger dog so only small dogs please.

She has never shown any kind of aggression towards children; however, because of her tiny size and quiet spirit, it would be best if she went to a home with no children under the age of 12 who are familiar with how to handle a dachshund.

Mae-Belle walks well on a leash and comes when called (any chance to get some lovings makes her tail wag as fast as it can go!) When she first came to our home, she did have some potty accidents; however, after 2 weeks, her accidents have become far and few between. She responds SO well to praise so she will go potty outside just to get some snuggle time. I promise you, if you are looking for a quiet and loving dog that will just live to make you happy, then Mae-Belle is the girl for you. Her big eyes just say Love me!! Won’t you consider giving Mae-Belle her true forever home?

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about MAE-BELLE

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
