BIO:

  • Happy happy boy, friendly to all
  • Must have fenced in yard
  • Better to have another dog to play with but could be an only dog
  • Great jogging buddy, “a tired dog is a happy dog”
  • Great with kids
  • On special food for bladder stones

Otis came from Southern GA ended up in a shelter there as a stray and we are sure he got lost following his nose but he had no chip therefore they contacted us to take him. Shortly after we had him we discovered crystals in his urine and put him on special food and now no crystals but he’ll need to stay on the food the rest of his life.

Are you looking for a friendly happy boy that loves attention and is energetic then Otis is your man. He’s loyal, happy and doesn’t ask to borrow the car. You can’t go wrong with this guy but you must have a fenced yard and be home in at least 6 hours to let him out to potty and run the yard, a stay at home or work from home person is the best for Otis. He’ll follow you everywhere.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
