Being Fostered in Tallahassee, Florida
This handsome fella is Buddy. He was not very handsome when he came into rescue. Buddy was a puppy mill breeder. He spent his entire life in a cage and was severely malnourished when the puppy mill was raided, had numerous scars all over his body, had a respiratory infection, and somehow the very tip of his tail was cut off. But after a couple of months of loving care he is really starting to shine, both in the way he looks and his personality.
Buddy is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever seen but he definitely has some fear issues (not the biting kind-he has never even growled or tried to snap). Don’t get me wrong, he has come a very long way but he will do best in a low key home with a family that has patience to deal with some of his fears. He is pretty close to being totally housebroken and uses a doggie door with ease. He gets along great with all dogs, large and small, female and male. I think he is most relaxed with his foster buddies. Although he is not cat tested, I believe he would do well with cats. He bonded very quickly with my dogs and learned many skills from watching them, so I would highly recommend that he go to a forever home with at least one other dog.
Buddy craves love and attention, but he is still somewhat wary of people. His first day in rescue, I could not get near him unless I had food in my hand, which he would try to grab quickly and then run away. I had to sit perfectly still on the floor for about ½ hour before he had enough courage to come close to me. When he finally did, he climbed in my lap and put his head in the crook of my arm and went to sleep. Now, he comes to me willingly, especially for treats and the belly and chest rubs that he loves, but he will run if I make any sudden movements or noise. He definitely prefers if you are closer to his level rather than standing over him. Fast movements and unexpected noises seem to really spook him. I believe he just needs a family that is willing to take the time to show him that everything will be OK and he does not have to be afraid any more. With the right family, he will be a great companion. Can you give Buddy the forever home that he deserves??
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
