BIO (7/24/2019):  Looking for a worthy project with immeasurable reward?  Are you a female only home?  Then Izzy would love to come live with you!  What else do you need to know about Izzy? She:

  • Is house broken to a doggie door
  • Loves lap time and sleeping in the big bed
  • Gets along with other dogs
  • Needs fenced yard

Sadly, Izzy came from, we believe, a breeder in northern AL that either abused her or didn’t handle her at all.  She is very skittish around new situations and very nervous until she can trust you.  She’s great if you are sitting but too nervous to come to you if you are standing or walking, but if you sit down then she’s right beside you and then you can pet her and love on her.  We believe in time she’ll learn to trust you and be fine with you but she may never be comfortable around strangers.  But there is no aggression in her tiny little body so don’t let that scare you.

Izzy just needs someone that will adopt her and give her all the time she needs to get comfortable and trust... could that be YOU?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
