DACHSHUND..........................PURE/TWEENIE COAT.........................................LONG HAIR COLOR.....................................BLACK/TAN AGE...........................................12 YRS GENDER.................................FEMALE/SPAYED WEIGHT..................................12 LBS ADOPTION FEE...................."JUST A DONATION" CONTRACT Sharon at swblanton@gmail.com BEING FOSTERED IN B'ham, AL Dutchess has asked me to tell people that she's really still confused about what's happened in her life. She was living with her two brothers and had a happy home and she thought it would always be that way. One day, her owner wasn't there anymore and everything was all different; people everywhere and nobody paying much attention to them. Next thing she knew, they were all at the vet's office and she heard somebody say they would not be going home again. She even heard whispers of "put down." She wasn't sure what that meant but it didn't sound good because of the way they said it. She felt really lucky when a nice lady came to get them, took them to her house and promised them they would be okay and she would find someone to love them again. She would like people to know that her foster mom loves her and even lets her sleep in the big bed along with her sisters. She still wonders what happened to her Duke and Willy. (Note from foster mom - I haven't told her that Willy didn't make it to a new home; the stress was just too much for him.) So, Dutchess says that if you are looking for a dignified, fine old lady, she's the one. (Another note from foster mom - sometimes Dutchess looks me in the eye and I truly believe she's still asking for help in understanding what has happened to her. DUTCHESS is UTD on all shots and heartworm NEGATIVE and has even had a dental. She is housebroken. She is now waiting for someone to say "I WANT TO ADOPT DUTCHESS". Will you be that person and make DUTCHESS a happy camper?? We would say due to her age no young kids and we don't know about cats. WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS CARGO, TOO MANY HORROR TALES HAVE HAPPENED FOR US TO FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS. IF WE CAN'T TRANSPORT BY LAND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE CITY THAT THE DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN TO GET HIM/HER. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard or down to FLORDIA. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
