Don't you dare tell Johanna she's not Dachshund, momma was but daddy was a traveling man! Momma showed up in the neighborhood, pregnant and a good person took her in let her have her 5 puppies(three have homes) and now these two are safe with rescue and momma's getting spayed. But now for Johanna, she's smaller than her brother Anton with more brown on her. She is very sweet very laid back but does like to get her brother stirred up for a good play time. We can't be sure how big these babies will get but looking at their size now we'd say medium size 25-35lbs. They have had their first set of shots and are working on paper-training. Johanna would be perfect with a family of young children cause you don't have to worry about the fraigle back of the pure bred dachshund. Plus they seem just a little more laid back. If you are interested in Johanna or her brother Anton or both please contract the foster mom or go online and fill out an adoption application.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog plesae go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
