He's come out of his shell and is fine with the other dogs now, not aggressive but not scared either. He's not as attached at the hip to me as what he was when he first came and doesn't always sleep in the big bed but is happy sleeping in a doggie bed in the same room or next room. MICKEY2 does bark now but only when he wants to be fed....THIS BOY IS GORGEOUS AND IT'S A SHAME NO ONE HAS WANTED TO MAKE THEM A PART OF THEIR FAMILY AS HE IS TRUELY VERY VERY SWEET. MICKY2 gotten from a shelter in AL and he has a story to tell but it's just too bad that he can't tell it. He has scars on his body and a rib that looks like it was broken and wasn't allowed to heal right!! We don't know if he was in a dog fight, human abuse or hit by a car, maybe it's a good thing we don't know. I want to cry every time I look at his poor body and his sad sad eyes and every time I tell him he'll never have to worry again as no one will ever let him go thru what he's gone thru in the past. He is sweet sweet and wants to be where you are at in every room. Likes to sleep right next to his foster mommy to where he's touching me all night long. Maybe he doesn't quite believe this is real yet. He is very quiet and afraid of the other fosters so I have him separate from them for now. He does appear to be housebroken. Very quiet does not bark at all and I'm not sure he can but he can cry out in fear as he did that when one of the fosters took a nip at him. He's just so sweet.....don't know right now if he can walk on a least but does fine in a car. Is UTD on all shots. Will be heartworm tested when he is neutered this week..... I think he would be fine with cats....no small kids and would do well with an older couple that wants an only dogs or has one dog. Older kids would be ok as long as they were gentle with him and didn't scare him. This boy is too too sweet not to have a family of his own. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
