About Oscar5

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: Oscar
Hi. My name is Oscar. I am a 4-5 year old, 12 pound boy in need of a new home that will spoil me and love me like I've never been loved.
My story is a sad one, but I'm sure I'll have a happy ending.
My old dad passed away a few years ago, when I was only a baby. When he died, my old mom put me and my sisters, aunts and mom in an outdoor kennel and only fed us. We didn't have any attention and it shows. Our teeth were in horrible condition and she had to give us up becuase the neighbors said we were neglected. She tried to care for us, but with the death of old dad, things got too hard.
So, off to rescue we all went.
Right now we're in great foster homes and are coming around nicely. Foster mom says I'm the most out going of the 5 of us. I love everyone, but when I first got to my foster home I was so scared that I growled at my first foster mom. When I got to my second foster home, there was no growling and I seemed to settle in right away. I am protective of my family, but warm up to strangers in time. I need a home with no children under 10, but I get along fine with other dogs and ignore cats. I am a true dachshund, in that I like to bark at things outside and I LOVE to dig!!! I've never had a leash on, so I'm learning about leash training and going for walks.
I don't have a mean bone in my body and I love to be with my person. I am crate trained and doggie door trained, but still don't always "get" that I have to go outside to potty, but I'm learning! I love sleeping in the big bed, and love to burrow deep under the covers. I sleep all night and never change positions.
So, if you think I'm the big boy for you, please email my foster mom, Tonya at AgileOllie@yahoo.com and fill out an application on line.
I'm waiting for that perfect, special home. Is that with you?

Out of state and Canidian adoptions are welcome, we have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible. A home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.

Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
