We don't know why but SLUGGER is very very sweet and laid back. He gets along with male and female fosters. He really only wants someone to love him and return he'll give you all the love he has to give. We don't know about cats but kids over 8-10 would be fine and we'd like to see a fenced in yard so he has some place to roam. He is housetrained to a doggie door and we think he'd be fine without one but you would just need to work with him for a little. He is UTD on all shots and on Interceptor and Frontline and will have a dental before going to his forever home. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
