SNOOPY was born with an esophagus that didn't develop and therefore he can't eat like normal dogs do. He has to take medicine and his food has to be made into like a soup and you have to hold him upright while he drinks his food. If this is not done he will throw up his food and some will get into his lungs causing more problems. He was turned over to rescue cause his family had major medical problems themselves and could no longer care for SNOOPY.
We are looking for a special home that has the time to give this little boy the chance he needs for a forever home. He has done this for so long that he knows how he's supposed to eat and it's very easy to feed him twice a day. Usually 12 hours apart. He doesn't drink water so the only water he gets is what he gets when he eats. We take 1/2 can of Science Diet dog food and mix about 1/2 can of water with it and blend it up like soup and then hold him upright and he just laps it up. He also takes liquid med also which again he is used to taking. This doesn't take any longer than if you were feeding a couple of dogs. Once he's lapped up his food you just have to hold him up-right for about 2-3 mins and then he can get down and go about his business. He is such a sweet sweet boy and he deserves a forever home. He is UTD on all shots, on heartworm prevention and neutered. We are asking for just a donation but will check the home very carefully as we want him to have a special home. He would do best with another dog as he loves to play with toys and other dogs and he's very sweet and gives kisses and loves to cuddle. If you are interested in Snoopy please fill out an online application and be sure to put his name on the app. We will be in touch with less than a week.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog plesae go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
