Meet SPEC, the mayor of dachshundville! I call him that because if the other dogs get in a spat, he runs over and gently bites all over them like a mom tending to pups that wont behave. He mothers over all of the fosters, in general. SPEC came from a shelter in Alabama, he had worms and an awful oral infection. He’s had a dental now, been wormed, and is full of pep. SPEC is blind, but gets around great, he follows me or his foster brothers and sisters, and can climb the porch steps on his own. SPEC has a skin allergy, and needs extra conditioner for that, and he also needs a special ointment in his eyes for lubrication once a day. Neither of these is very expensive, but he is still considered a special needs dog. SPEC’S coat is growing back in and he is in good health. SPEC jumps on your leg for attention and love, and is very well behaved. He’s happy to stay on his special bed in between feeding, loving and playing outside, and he loves to burrow in covers and fluff his covers up with his teeth to get the bed just right. He’s a really great dog and has an adorable personality. He also does well with kids. SPEC doesn’t bark much, either*just when another dog comes near his chew treats. SPEC is HW negative, on frontline and HW preventative, and will be neutered soon. SPEC is the biggest love bug and he makes sure to not miss out on treats or petting when the dogs and I spend time in the floor together. Out of state and Canidian adoptions are welcome, we have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible. A home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue. Bio supplied by former foster
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
