He had very bad teeth, and a double ear infection when he arrived.He's very shy and timid at first, but with time he turns into a great lap dog, always wanting to be with you. He's a little guy at only 9.5 lbs but he has a ton of character. He's not a kisser and not a barker. He loves being able to play with the bigger dogs here. He is content to sleep by myself, or in the big bed. He will need a fenced yard because leash training is a work in progress. He is house broken to use a doggy door and will also potty when you take him out before bed. Patience and lots of love is the key with this little guy. We don't have small kids here, so I'm not sure how he will act. Older kids and cats should be ok. We have a 6 wk old baby here that he is completely uninterested in. He came in with ARNIE and GONZO from the breeder in TN. He is UTD on all shots, neutered and on heartworm prevention. Please give this boy a wonderful home that he so richly deserves and has been deprived of up till now Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
