He’s not a delicate little guy stocky but not fat at all. He is short but wide little legs and paws. He's sort of a blonde. He has a gorgeous coat – one of those silky soft ones. You know how some smooths are more coarse and some are soft and silky – he has the soft one. He’s good with people – seemed to love everybody and wants to see who was there and what was going on. I think he would be great with a family with children but he needs a high energy family. He’ll need somebody who can let him know the rules but from meeting him only a short while, I think he’ll turn into a great family pet. I can see him running and playing with children. He is a friendly guy. Loves attention of any kind. He is good with the kids. Doesn't mind cats and gets alone well with other dogs. He is food aggressive with the other animals so will need to be fed separately, but doesn't care if you take his food. He has no house manners, in other words he thinks he is king of the house which is what most dachshunds think anyway. He is used to getting on the couch or bed and likes to sit in your lap and he will beg for food if you have something that he thinks he might like. We of course are working to this and he will need to continue that once he is in his forever home. Over all he is a delight and will make someone a wonderful family member. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
