TRIXIE came into rescue with her 4 female puppies, Lottie, Dixie, Christie and Hattie. They have all found wonderful homes now it's Trixie's turn. When she first came to us she was very afraid but is getting better each day. She is still overwhelmed by all my fosters but I think once she gets in a home by herself or one other dachshund she'll be a lot better. This morning she actually played with one of the male fosters I have and it was so sweet to watch her probably the first time she's ever been able to do that. She and her puppies came from that horrible breeder that didn't take care of these babies at all. Trixie was one of the lucky ones and got surrendered at Animal Controls request. So here she is looking for a new home and a family that will love her. She is very sweet but timid and will take time to warm up to you but watching her blossom is well worth the wait. She is heartworm negative and current on all of her shots and spayed. She will be getting a dental before she goes to her new home. She is working very hard on her housebreaking skills and is eager to please. She is not aggressive in anything or to anyone or any dog. TRIXIE loves cats!! but no SMALL children as they would make her too nervous. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
