BIO (9/11/2019):  Brittany was adopted from AADR 3 years ago and returned when her owner could no longer care for her.  Brittany had gained several pounds, but is now back at a good weight.  She had some allergy problems, but with a proper diet those have been resolved.  Her new owners will need to ensure that she continues to eat healthy.  She has just 2 teeth left, but has no problem eating dry dog food.  Britt has a dry right eye that requires eye ointment.  She waits patiently twice a day while it is administered.  She will come with several months’ supply of eye medication.

Brittany is a sweet little lady who wants nothing more than a warm bed and lots of love.  She warms up quickly to new people.  She would be happiest in an adult home, but would be okay with young visitors that are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.  She gets along well with other small dogs or would be fine as an only dog, just as long as she gets plenty of attention.  She is very interested in cats, but learns quickly from a cat who lets her know to back off.

During the day Britt stays in a dog friendly area.  She will use a pee pad if needed, but usually does well as long as she is taken out first thing in the morning, right before bedtime, and a few times during the day.  At night she has been sleeping in a dog bed... she would be very happy to sleep with her people.  She is crate trained but is such a good girl that she hasn't spent much time crated.  Britt walks well on a leash and enjoys short strolls.  She also rides well in the car.

If you are looking for a gentle little lap warmer, Brittany is your girl!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
