BIO (10/28/2019):  Let me introduce you to my latest foster, Brooklynn... she is such a sweet girl!  Brooklynn loves to snuggle and enjoys tearing the squeaky toys apart to save the squeakers.  She enjoys running through the house to let everyone know where she is.  She does really well letting me know she needs to go outside and, by the way, she loves to be outside.  Brooklynn does well with other dogs but does not like cats...she found out the hard way they have claws.  

As for children, Brooklynn has been around babies and was not to interested.  She found two-year-olds to be a source for food, loves teenagers, and older people are a source of hugs and kisses.

Brooklynn is still very much a puppy.  She has a deformed front paw that causes her no troubles.  It just makes her look cuter!  The only thing I have had to correct her about is she loves to tear up paper: toilet paper, newspaper, paper bags.  She finds them and runs to her bed and tears it into a million little pieces.  Brooklynn rides well in the car and enjoys a good tummy rub.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
