BIO:  Rachael came from a divorce situation in NC along with another dog. They were returned to the breeder they were originally from, and she in turn gave them over to us.

  • Must have a fenced yard
  • Must have another young dog for her to play with since she’s just now learning to play
  • Must have the patience to help her with her potty training
  • Must be home a lot
  • No apartments

Sadly, Rachael is very scared of new things and people. So, whoever adopts her must help her get over her fear of the unknown. Rachel will snap if she’s approached by strangers and it takes her time to trust new people BUT once she does, she will stick to you like glue. If you are looking for a loyal companion, then Rachael is for you! Just understand you have to work with her, she will not warm up to you right away.

Rachael is a sweet, loving girl and just wants you to give her lots of attention. You’ll need to be very patient while teaching her potty training. Please don’t let these things stand in your way of adopting this most precious girl. This little girl has a lot of love to give... help her to be the pet she should be!!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
