BIO:  WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TO A HOME WITHIN A 100 MILE RADIUS OF LEWISBURG, TENNESSEE.

He must have a Dachshund savvy home that understands severe resource guarding and is willing to work with a dog with this issue.

Watson has been working very hard with the trainer and the family that adopts him MUST follow the trainer's guidelines to keep him on track. He's very smart and can figure out right away if he can take over the pack leader role so you have to be the pack leader ALL the time.

Watson came from another rescue in Alabama that wanted to put him with a breed-specific rescue for Dachshunds.  Watson's list includes:

  • An adopter who has Dachshund experience
  • Loves toys but will guard them with humans
  • Loves to play with other dogs
  • Needs a fenced yard
  • No apartments
  • No children  now or in the future

Watson is a great dog and loves his people.  He really loves his toys but he loves them so much he doesn’t want you taking them away.  Possibly when he gets comfortable in his new home that is Dachshund savvy he’ll be better, but we want people to understand that he thinks they are his.

Other than that one thing, Watson is a wonderful dog!  He’s happy and cuddly to his people and will warm up to strangers if they go slowly.  He would really like to have another young dog to play with and must have a fenced yard so they can chase each other.

Do you have what it takes to give him the kind of home he needs?  If so, please fill out an application today.  Don’t let the toy aggression scare you off, he’s a great little guy!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Likes to play with toys, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
