BIO:  Mr. Weenie and another Dachshund came from Ohio when their owner went into a nursing home and no family members were willing to take them.

  • Mr. Weenie needs a fenced yard or to ALWAYS be walked on a leash
  • Another dog to keep him company if you are not going to be home
  • No jumping on and off furniture and no stairs
  • Loves lap time and attention

Mr. Weenie really is a sweet boy! He’s a little bit of a talker so he would not do well in an apartment. He would be fine if you don't have a fenced yard, but you would need to keep him on a leash because even at 12 he doesn’t act his age.

Mr. Weenie did have successful back surgery back in March of 2019 and recovered fully but he does not need to be jumping on and off chairs or couches. And no steps, if you have stairs, he must be carried.

Mr. Weenie is a little overweight and we are working very hard to get him down to 11 pounds, which is where he should be and that’s where his adopter would need to keep his weight.

You could not ask for a sweeter Dachshund than Mr. Weenie so please do not let his age stop you from giving him his last forever home, he would be the loyalist and sweetest. Please consider him!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
